Azerbaijan, UAE hold 9th meeting of Joint Intergovernmental Commission

The 9th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Trade and Technical Cooperation between the  Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the United Arab Emirates has been held in Shusha.

Mikayil Jabbarov and  Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri, the Ministers of Economy of the respective countries and Co-Chairs of the aforementioned commission held talks prior to the meeting.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that the relations between Azerbaijan and the UAE are based on the principles of mutual friendship and respect, and that the political will of the heads of state of both countries plays an important role in the development of cooperation. 

The special role of mutual visits and discussions in determining new directions of relations was highlighted. The parties also stressed that the activities of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission, whose  9th meeting was held in Shusha, along with the operation of the Trade Representative of Azerbaijan in the UAE and the Azerbaijan Trade House in Dubai, have significantly contributed to the development of business relations

The bilateral meeting noted the great potential for the development of cooperation and emphasized the importance of further increasing the volume of mutual trade and diversifying its structure. Discussions were held on potential investment projects in green energy and tourism, as well as negotiations on signing the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between Azerbaijan and the UAE.

The 9th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Trade and Technical Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the United Arab Emirates took place afterward.

In his speech at the meeting, Mikayil Jabbarov,  Minister of Economy and Co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Commission, pointed out that the partnership between Azerbaijan and the UAE had been successfully developed both at the intergovernmental level and between business circles, the volume of trade turnover had increased and joint initiatives had yielded positive results.

The participants were informed about the favorable business and investment climate created in our country, the activities of the industrial zones, and the opportunities of the Alat Free Economic Zone, and the "open door" policy for foreign investors. UAE investors were invited to benefit from the investment promotion mechanisms and to participate in the implementation of joint projects.

Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy and Co-Chair of the Commission expressed his satisfaction with his visit to Azerbaijan and the organization of the Commission's meeting in Shusha, stressing that Azerbaijan had achieved great development, and significant energy, transport and logistics projects initiated by Azerbaijan had been implemented. He expressed his confidence that the ongoing effort to strengthen multifaceted cooperation between the two countries will contribute to the implementation of new joint projects and the development of economic and trade relations.

The parties also touched upon issues such as strengthening the partnership between the two countries, realization of joint initiatives in green energy and other fields, and potential areas of cooperation within COP29.

The meeting concluded with a Protocol signed on the results of the 9th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Trade and Technical Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the United Arab Emirates.

The document signed by the Co-Chairs of the Intergovernmental Commission calls for the expansion of cooperation in trade and investment, support for SMEs, innovation and digitization, energy including green energy, industry, agriculture, food safety, environment, land reclamation and water management, transport and logistics, communication and high technologies, science and education, tourism, health, culture, etc.
